Newbury Staff Visit Nicky Henderson At Seven Barrows

Newbury Racecourse staff were able to visit Nicky Henderson's yard at Seven Barrows ahead of another exciting National Hunt season.

Last week, members of staff from Newbury Racecourse were able to get up close and meet some racing great’s, including Nicky Henderson himself!

We were driven up to the top of the gallops where the Seven Barrows team had very kindly kept back some legends of the racing world for us to watch as they did a piece of work up the gallops. The x4 Grade 1 winning Jonbon led the string, and amongst the string included Shishkin and Constitution Hill, who have both won an incredible x6 Grade 1’s each during their careers so far.

After the horses had finished their exercise, we headed back down to the yard where the horses were washed down. Constitution Hill made another appearance to please his fans, having a pick of grass whilst staff were able to meet him and grab a couple of quick snaps!

We then headed on a tour of the yard where we were shown where the horses are stabled, the tack room full of owners’ silks, and equipment such as the water treadmill. Staff were able to meet more horses and were particularly taken by Champ, a wonderful veteran who last November won Newbury’s prestigious Coral Long Distance Hurdle Race in a head-on battle with Paisley Park.

A huge thank you must go to Nicky, Sophie, Charlie and all of the Seven Barrows team for hosting us. We can’t wait to see the horses running at Newbury over the 23/24 jumps season, starting with the BetVictor Jumps Season Opener taking place on 9th November.

Watch a roundup of our trip in the video above.
