Betfair Denman Chase Champions
Originally known as the Aon Chase, the prestigious Betfair Denman Chase is a Grade 2 steeplechase open to horses age 5 or older, was first run in 2000. In 2012, the race was renamed the Denman Chase in memory of the Paul Nicholls-trained Denman, who had won the race in 2008 followed by two Coral Gold Cups.
This historic race never fails to bring in top-quality horses, with the 2024 renewal confirming that the six-time Grade 1 winning Shishkin will be hoping to scoop this year’s prize.
Take a look below at some notable previous winners of the Betfair Denman Chase.
#1 Kauto Star
Trained by Paul Nicholls, it was Kauto Star who won the Denman Chase in 2007 under Ruby Walsh.
Known for his versatility, Kauto Star enjoyed an impressive career – amassing over £3.75m in prize money.
He was the only horse ever to be top rated over 2 miles, 2.5 miles and 3 miles in the same season. He is also the first horse ever to win a Grade 1 race in 6 consecutive seasons – he then added 2 more the following season to make it 7.
After his Denman Chase victory, Kauto Star went on to win the Cheltenham Gold Cup a month later amongst multiple other successes.
