Goffs Boutique Point-To-Point Sale Returns To Newbury Racecourse On Coral Gold Cup Day
Newbury Racecourse’s flagship National Hunt meeting, the Coral Gold Cup, takes place on Saturday 29th November, with the Goffs UK Coral Gold Cup Sale set to return for the third consecutive year. Following the success of last year’s auction – in which 14 of the 16 horses offered sold for a total of ÂŁ1,510,500 – the sale will once again be staged immediately after the day’s racing.
Held in the winners’ enclosure at Newbury Racecourse, the Goffs UK Coral Gold Cup Sale is a boutique off-site auction and forms part of Goffs’ portfolio of select Point-to-Point sales.
The inaugural 2023 edition set a high bar and the 2024 sale built on this to deliver notable results, including a standout top lot of ÂŁ320,000; Lot 4, Kindly Prince (FR), was bought by David Mullins from Johnathan Fogarty Racing following an impressive 16-length victory in a Point-to-Point at Lingstown.
The second-highest price, £190,000, was secured for Lot 7, Real Quartz (IRE), bought by bloodstock agent Ryan Mahon on behalf of trainer Dan Skelton from Sam Curling’s Skehanagh Stables. Real Quartz has since made promising start under rules by winning a maiden hurdle under Harry Skelton at Carlisle last week.
Across the 14 lots sold, the 2024 auction returned an average price of £107,893 and median price of £85,000. With positive feedback from vendors and buyers alike, expectations are high for further growth at this year’s sale.
Goffs UK Managing Director Tim Kent commented: “The Goffs Coral Gold Cup Sale has produced some fantastic results in its first two years and has built a reputation as a trusted outlet for top-class UK and Irish point-to-pointers. We are starting to see the first graduates hit the track, with Real Quartz winning his debut only days ago, so the coming season will be an exciting one for the sale and we are looking forward to offering another high-class, boutique catalogue of pointers, after racing on Coral Gold Cup Day.”
The Goffs UK Sale adds to a big weekend of entertainment and activity with those in attendance at the Coral Gold Cup able to look forward to exclusive jockey autograph signing sessions, punters’ panels, parade ring tours and jockey talks as well as the opportunity to meet a retired racehorse and enjoy a parade of retired stars such as Coneygree, Paisley Park, Bristol De Mai and Dashel Drasher – all free of charge.
That’s all before two big afterparties take centre stage after racing to extend the weekend’s entertainment while Coral will be on-site with a range of free-to-use activations and activities across the two days.
The Coral Gold Cup meeting – taking place on Friday 28th and Saturday 29th November – guarantees top-class action at Newbury. The feature race on the opening day, the Coral Long Distance Hurdle, was won by the Olly Murphy-trained Strong Leader last year and boasts a distinguished roll of honour including Inglis Drever, Big Buck’s, Thistlecrack, Paisley Park and Champ. Saturday’s showpiece, the Coral Gold Cup, is one of the most prestigious handicap chases in the British National Hunt calendar. Won in 2024 by the Paul Nicholls-trained Kandoo Kid, its illustrious history features legends such as Arkle, Denman, Bobs Worth, Many Clouds and Native River.
Tickets for both days of the Coral Gold Cup meeting are available at a discounted rate until 11:59pm on Friday 21st November with U18s going free. For tickets and more information please follow the button below.
