Dan Skelton: ‘’It Can Spark Their Enthusiasm’’
Dan Skelton heads into the Coral Gold Cup on Saturday 30th November with stable star Heltenham eyeing up the weekend’s feature race. Along with his Coral Gold Cup hopeful, Dan hopes to run Lac De Constance on Friday 29th November on Coral Long Distance Hurdle Day.
Heltenham – currently unbeaten at Newbury – will be looking to continue his winning streak having beaten 2024 Coral Gold Cup entry – Kandoo Kid – around Newbury last season.
Dan gave us an update on Heltenham after Coral Gold Cup Gallops Morning:
“He is going to be confirmed for the Gold Cup, we will also give him an entry on the Friday as well. I do probably want to run in the Gold Cup though – he went well today.”
In addition to Skelton’s Coral Gold Cup entries, Newbury’s Gallops Morning saw two new additions to his string – Giantsgrave and Only Way Is Up. The two horses took to Newbury’s course for the first time, providing invaluable experience ahead of their racing debuts.
Dan commented on what the Gallops Morning means to horses like this:
“It gives them a different environment to gallop in. A lot of these horses – with the way the weather’s been all autumn – won’t have been off their home training facilities, so to get them out for a different day can spark their enthusiasm, so it’s really appreciated”
Be at Newbury on Friday 29th November for the Coral Long Distance Hurdle Day, and Saturday 30th November for the Coral Gold Cup Day – discounted tickets available until 11:59pm on Friday 22nd November.
