What To Expect From The Coral Challow Hurdle Day

Newbury Racecourse Set For A Festive Finale To 2025 As Coral Challow Hurdle Day Returns

Top-class National Hunt racing, family entertainment and a brand-new after-party set to round off the year on Monday 29th December 2025

Coral Challow Hurdle Day returns to Newbury Racecourse on Monday 29th December 2025. Positioned between Christmas and New Year, the fixture provides the perfect excuse to bring family and friends together for a festive day at the races.

On track, the centrepiece is the Grade 1 Coral Challow Novices’ Hurdle, a contest regularly targeted by leading trainers and renowned for showcasing some of the most exciting rising stars in British National Hunt racing.

Beyond the racing action, visitors can look forward to a full day of entertainment and experiences for all ages. New for 2025, Newbury will introduce a dedicated Family Zone in the Denman Marquee, running from 10:00am to 2:30pm. Activities will include face painting, arts and crafts, disco party games hosted by Steps Ahead Dance, and interactive games such as giant Jenga, skittles and beanbag throws with Sport in Mind. Families can also enjoy a selection of complimentary giveaways throughout the morning.

Racegoers who book in advance can once again take advantage of complimentary Parade Ring Tours, as well as Trips to the Jump and Jockey Talks, led by former jockey David Crosse. These popular behind-the-scenes experiences offer a unique insight into what it takes to compete at the highest level of Jumps racing.

As part of Newbury’s close partnership with Greatwood, who use former racehorses to educate disadvantaged children and young adults with Special Educational Needs (SEN), racegoers will also have the opportunity to meet retired racehorse Mahlervous, and his miniature Shetland companion, Gladys, on site before the first race.

There will also be the chance to meet some other four-legged friends, as Home Run Hounds Romford brings retired greyhounds to the racecourse, each looking for a loving new home.

Adult racegoers can visit the Coral Activation Zone (18+ only) for the chance to win exciting prizes, adding an extra element of fun to the day.

Brand new for 2025, the celebrations will continue after racing with a two-hour after-party in the Denman Marquee, featuring music from DJ Moonraker, ensuring Coral Challow Hurdle Day and 2025 ends on a high note.
