Newbury Racecourse’s Schools’ Celebration Raceday Takes Shape As 4,000 Free Tickets Requested By Pupils & Parents
Newbury Racecourse’s brand-new Schools’ Celebration Raceday is now less than four weeks away and the day will combine thrilling racing with a packed programme of family entertainment, interactive activities and exclusive experiences – all for free.
The Schools’ Celebration Raceday – taking place on Wednesday 26th August – will see children from pre-primary, primary and secondary schools across Berkshire and the surrounding counties enjoy free admission as part of Newbury Racecourse’s popular Under 18s Go Free scheme. In addition, each child can claim complimentary tickets for up to two adult family members, with heavily discounted admission available for additional relatives.
The new initiative is designed to give pupils and parents the chance to experience the excitement of live horseracing free of charge this summer and has already generated significant interest with pupils from nearly 200 schools signing up and more than 4,000 free tickets already requested for the inaugural event.
Alongside an afternoon of live racing, families will be able to enjoy a whole host of free entertainment and activities. Highlights include a 40ft inflatable obstacle course, face painting, arts and crafts, disco dance party sessions for mixed age groups, a children’s photo booth, as well as a local resident DJ and the chance to win prizes throughout the day. National Racehorse Week will also be celebrated through a series of themed activities and giveaways, while Berkshire Cricket will give children the opportunity to take part in a range of cricket activities.
Greatwood Charity, Great British Racing, Racing to School and the Professional Jockeys’ Association will all be on-site on the day giving youngsters the opportunity to meet a racehorse, make the most of signing sessions with jockeys, behind-the-scenes tours and even try their hand as a jockey themselves courtesy of virtual reality simulators.
Mental health charity Sport in Mind will host a dedicated activity area featuring giant Jenga, Connect 4, beanbag throw, skittles and soft archery, while a sensory unit delivered in partnership with Autism in Racing will provide a welcoming and inclusive space for visitors who may benefit from a quieter environment. A wide range of food and drink options – including smaller, child-friendly portions – will also be available throughout the day, ensuring there is something for the whole family to enjoy.
