30 Confirmed Entries For The Weatherbys Super Sprint

It is all about speed on Saturday, as an exciting field of two-year-olds go forward for the £250,000 Weatherbys Super Sprint

A field of 32 remain in contention at the confirmations stage for the Weatherbys Super Sprint at Newbury Racecourse on Saturday 18th July. The race, worth £250,000 in total prize money and run over a distance of 5f, is the centrepiece of a highly competitive card.

Richard Hannon has won this race four times in the past, most recently with Gubbass in 2024 but the record is still held by his father Richard Hannon (Snr), who was successful a total of seven times. Hoping to add to his tally, Hannon has five entries led by Rollthedicebaby, who comes into the race off the back of winning at Goodwood back in June, alongside stablemates From Me To You, Call Me Tomorrow, Leucothea and Clueisinthetitle.

Another Lambourn trainer with a strong affiliation, having won the race twice as a jockey, Richard Hughes will look to get his name on the board as a trainer with Bint Archange, who was last seen getting the better of this year’s Brocklesby winner in a Listed race at Sandown earlier this month.

Trainer Ralph Beckett and owner Mrs Fitri Hay have enjoyed success over the same trip with Breeders’ Cup winner, Starlust, and will be hoping the stallion Zoustar can provide them with another sprinting star in Rapid Deployment.

Seeking to take the race back down to the West Country for the second year in a row is Rod Millman with Devon Angel and Courage Best.

Other recent winners include Sky Secret for the Clive Cox team, who lived up to her price at Leicester on her second start when breaking her maiden tag. Last month, Sydney Grace got off the mark for Charlie Fellowes at Carlisle and Angels Lane denied her odds of 33/1 when winning first time out for trainer Henry Candy. Meanwhile, William Haggas is represented by Lady Rosalind after her successful trip to Ripon a week ago.

The owner-trainer combination of Richard Spencer and Phil Cunningham have confirmed two homebreds in Zigazig Ah or Etienne.

Wait Geordie, Vollering, Ballisty, Bill The Bull, Final Appeal, Nascent Star, Seathegulls, Minster Boy, Niewiadoma, Fern Clyde, Kodi Bear Light, Holi Scarlett, Past Passion, Seed Ya Later, and Holliesthedollie make up the rest of the field at this confirmation stage.
