2025 Coral Gold Cup Weights Revealed
The National Hunt season gets underway at Newbury Racecourse tomorrow, with excitement building for the feature race of the season, the Coral Gold Cup, on Saturday 29th November. The weights for the £250,000 Premier Handicap over 3m2f – which attracted 51 early entries – have been announced.
Lucinda Russell & Michael Scudamore’s Cheltenham Festival winner, Myretown, is current joint ante-post favourite at 7/1 with sponsors Coral. The eight-year-old, last seen winning the Grade 3 Ultima Handicap Chase in March, has been allocated a weight of 10st4lb. The other 7/1 shot is the Olly Murphy trained Resplendent Grey, who won the Listed Colin Parker Memorial Intermediate Chase on seasonal debut at Carlisle last Sunday, and has been allocated a weight of 11st1lb.
The strongest chance for the Irish appears to be Willie Mullins’ recent Listed Michael Hickey Memorial Chase winner, Blizzard Of Oz, who currently holds the second favourite spot at 8/1, having been allocated a weight of 11st1lb.
Close behind is the Cheltenham Festival winner and Grade 3 Irish Grand National Chase victor, Haiti Couleurs, at 9/1. The Rebecca Curtis trained gelding would carry 11st.
The Dan Skelton trained and 166-rated gelding, Grey Dawning, has been allotted top weight of 12st with Skelton’s 2024 Ryanair Chase winner, Protektorat receiving the second top weight of 11st13lb. The pair currently sit at 20/1 in the betting and are two of six entered in the race for the Skelton team.
Having recently reported that Caldwell Potter will be out for the season, Paul Nicholls now has two potential runners in Threeunderthrufive and Inch House, who could be set to carry 11st and 9st7lb respectively.
