Quality, Safety, Health and Environment (QSHE) Co-ordinator
Newbury Racecourse is an award-winning sporting venue with a multi-functional site playing host to more than 30 racedays a year plus a wide range of other events including concerts, weddings and exhibitions. We are also home to a 36-bedroom hotel, The Lodge and a leading children’s nursery, Rocking Horse Nursery.
We are currently seeking a Quality, Safety, Health and Environment (QSHE) Co-ordinator to join our Operations Team. This is a new role responsible for the development and implementation of Newbury Racecourse’s Health & Safety culture and our QSHE management systems. This is a great opportunity for an ambitious QSHE practitioner to assist in raising the profile of Newbury Racecourse as a leading provider of safe and sustainable venue.
Reporting to the Operations and Guest Experience Director, responsibilities will include:
- Co-ordinating the QSHE function for both raceday and non-raceday activity, continuously improving QSHE standards.
- Administration and development of all QSHE management systems, policies and procedures.
- Maintenance of the company’s legal and compliance registers, ensuring event compliance with all statutory requirements including health and safety, environmental, accessibility and licensing.
- Implementation of the QSHE audit programme.
- Being the point of contact for all internal and external risk assessments.
- Responding to any health, safety and environmental incidents including identifying trends, carrying out investigations and risk assessments where necessary.
- Further developing and refining our sustainability initiatives throughout the entire business.
- Conducting regular meetings and carrying out ad-hoc inspections with sub-contractors.
You will be able to demonstrate:
- Previous experience in a similar role
- A detailed understanding of Health and Safety management and QSHE standards supported by appropriate qualifications, such as an IOSH qualification
- Strong administration skills, excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word and preferably Teams)
- Outstanding organisational, customer service and communication skills, with a natural ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
- The importance of working collaboratively as part of a team, alongside being self-motivated and able to exercise sound judgement and the confidence to work unsupervised

Operations and Guest Experience Director
Newbury Racecourse is an award-winning sporting venue with a multi-functional site playing host to more than 30 racedays a year plus a wide range of other events including concerts, weddings and exhibitions. We are also home to a 36-bedroom hotel, The Lodge and a leading children’s nursery, Rocking Horse Nursery.
We have an exciting new opportunity for an experienced individual to take up the role of Operations and Guest Experience Director. This is a pivotal appointment for a qualified and talented professional to join our leadership team and play a key role in the success of the racecourse, taking responsibility for all raceday and non-raceday operations along with commercial development of our on-site hotel.
Reporting into the Chief Executive, the successful candidate will ensure delivery of a first-class venue and customer experience, whilst ensuring excellent and consistent health and safety standards.
The role will encompass full control of:
- Event and raceday operations – strategic event coordination to ensure the delivery of a safe, first-class event
- Line management of the Operations Manager, Hotel Manager and QSHE Coordinator
- Leading on our customer experience strategy
- Health and Safety, ensuring the business remains best in class and fully compliant with all regulations and legislation
- Budget management and reporting
- Management of the following areas: Cleaning, Traffic, Stewarding and Security
- Overseeing the management and commercial development of the on-site hotel
You will need:
- Significant depth of experience and demonstrable success in operational planning
- A successful track record of events delivery within a comparable venue, with detailed knowledge of crowd dynamics
- Detailed understanding of Health and Safety management supported by appropriate qualifications
- Outstanding communications skills, natural ability to engage with and manage senior stakeholders (both internal and external)
- Dynamism and presence, ability to act as an ambassador for the racecourse

Night Porter – The Lodge
The Lodge is a 36-room hotel set in the award-winning sporting venue of Newbury Racecourse. It offers outstanding accommodation to stable staff on and around race-days, and to the public for the remainder of the year.
We are currently seeking a Night Porter to join our friendly team. This is a position of responsibility taking care of the hotel during the night, ensuring the hotel meets and exceeds customer expectations whilst maintaining agreed standards of service. We welcome full-time and part-time working applications.
The responsibilities of this role will include:
• Greeting late arrivals, answering queries, helping to resolve any issues and providing exceptional assistance and service to our guests during night-time hours
• Assisting with food service and operating the on-site bar as and when required
• Receiving and processing telephone and walk in reservations accurately to ensure guest satisfaction
• Carrying out other administrative and reception duties that may be required
• Participating in night cleaning schedules as directed by the Hotel Manager
• Compliance with all health and safety, food hygiene and fire safety regulations
• Ensuring the security of the hotel during night-time hours
The successful candidate will:
• Be self-motivated and able to use their initiative
• Possess excellent communication skills and work well within a team
• Exercise sound judgement and be happy to work unsupervised
• Possess excellent IT and organisational skills
Previous work experience in a similar role within the hospitality, catering or sporting industries would be advantageous, but not essential as training will be provided. This role is likely to include hours of work during weekends on a rota basis.
