THE AL SHAQAB LOCKINGE RETURNS NEXT WEEKEND

There’s a whole host of activity to look forward to on Saturday 18th May!

The Al Shaqab Lockinge Stakes, Newbury’s Group 1 Flat season showpiece, returns on Saturday 18th May. The feature race of the day – the Al Shaqab Lockinge Stakes – is set to be a thrilling renewal, this year run for a total prize fund of £400,000. Last year’s dramatic race was won by the Charlie Appleby-trained Modern Games for Godolphin. Fifteen horses remain in contention to join the race’s illustrious roll of honour in 2024. Off the track, racegoers can look forward to an abundance of activities to enjoy on Newbury’s official Ladies Day.

The first older horse Group 1 of the season, the Al Shaqab Lockinge Stakes is the second of the QIPCO British Champions Series mile races, run over the straight mile at the Berkshire track. The British Champion Series activation team will be on-site with virtual reality headsets for racegoers to experience the thrill of riding in a race. British Champions Series Club 26 offers Members aged 18-26 £10 tickets to Al Shaqab Lockinge Day. It is free to join Club 26 and become a member, sign up at www.britishchampionsseries.co.uk/club26.

Those racegoers who purchase tickets in advance can book on to complimentary trips to the start to watch the action at the starting stalls. Before racing commences on Saturday, head to the paddock to listen to the Punters’ Panel and hear from our experts ahead of the day’s racing. Get your racecards at the ready to note down tips from our experts. Newbury’s resident retired racehorse from Greatwood charity will be also on-site to greet all racegoers on arrival.

As Newbury Racecourse’s official Ladies Day, racegoers can enjoy complimentary beauty treatments in the Sequoia Hair & Beauty marquee whilst those racegoers looking their Lockinge best will have a chance of winning an array of on-the-spot prizes courtesy of Parkway Shopping.

To mark World Pool’s increased presence at Newbury on Al Shaqab Lockinge Day – and the pool’s origins – the Racecourse will celebrate the very best of Hong Kong throughout the day and courtesy of this will welcome a brand-new Hong Kong Garden.

The garden will play host to an array of entertainment and activation, including authentic dragon and lion dances, free facepainting and henna tattoos. The highlight will be a live performance from reality TV star Albert Chau.

The raceday will then round out in style with an Ibiza-themed afterparty featuring Lovely Laura and DJ Ben Santiago. The dynamic husband and wife duo who’ve jetted in from Ibiza will lead the party with their one-of-a-kind saxophone and DJ combo.

The renowned duo have played venues and festivals including Tomorrowland, Café Mambo, Ministry of Sound, Ibiza Rocks, Creamfields & Pacha with the official afterparty starting at 5:30pm following the conclusion of racing.
