Racing & Grounds Assistant

Full Time

Newbury Racecourse is seeking an individual for an exciting new role as a Racing & Grounds Assistant to assist the Clerk of the Course and Head Groundsperson as required and be willing to undertake a variety of tasks, based both in the office and across the racecourse estate.

We are an award-winning, multi-functional racecourse playing host to c. 31 racedays per year, including the Al Shaqab Lockinge Stakes and Coral Gold Cup, plus a wide range of other exciting non-racing events including: concerts, weddings and conferences. Our other businesses are an on-site hotel (The Lodge) and the Rocking Horse Nursery.

Main duties:
• To assist the Clerk of the Course in undertaking a variety of tasks including racing administration preparing for race fixtures, race planning, financial reporting, marketing and track maintenance reporting.
• Aid in communicating with industry officials ahead of a raceday, including Trainers, Jockeys, BHA officials, Veterinary & Medical Teams.
• Willingness to learn new turf management skills and increase knowledge of the racing industry.
• Complete ad hoc projects as requested by the Clerk of the Course or the Head Groundsperson.
• Work closely with the Grounds Team carrying out a number of tasks including moving rail, mowing, strimming, irrigation and, setting up and assisting at race fixtures.
• Assist with maintenance, preparation and repair of the racetrack and surrounding estate.
• Compliance with all Health and Safety procedures associated with the department at all times.

You will need:
• There will be elements of working unsupervised, so you must be reliable, enthusiastic, able to use your initiative and to exercise sound judgment.
• Excellent time management and communication skills.
• A full valid driving licence.

Digital, Communications & Content Executive

Newbury Racecourse is an award-winning sporting venue with a multi-functional site playing host to more than 30 racedays a year plus a wide range of other events including concerts, weddings and exhibitions while also being home to a 36-bedroom hotel, The Lodge and leading children’s nursery, Rocking Horse Nursery.

We are seeking a Digital, Communications & Content Executive to join our friendly Marketing Team and play a key role in creating and curating our digital content. This is an exciting full-time opportunity for someone who has knowledge of and passion for the latest digital trends and technologies. The successful candidate will be creative, organised and data-focussed, with the drive to jump straight into this role and deliver it with confidence.

Main duties will include:

  • Planning, managing and reporting on our social media activity across all key business areas – racing, hotel, nursery and conference & events
  • Regular use of insight and data to inform and optimise content output
  • Assisting with the delivery of Newbury Racecourse’s communications and PR strategy and associated activity
  • Delivering and outputting content which drives engagement and increases audience across social and digital channels
  • Assisting with content strategy, creation, capture and output across both digital and traditional channels
  • Writing, curating and outputting engaging written content

The successful candidate in this role will;

  • Have excellent writing and proofing skills, as well as a very keen eye for detail
  • Be self-motivated, creative and confident enough to take the initiative
  • Be innovative and imaginative; capable of creating engaging content and generating ideas
  • Use data and insight to inform content planning and output
  • Be familiar with the latest trends across social and digital channels
