Quality fields set to go to post on Worthington’s Armed Forces Raceday

The two Group races at Newbury Racecourse’s Worthington’s Armed Forces Day on Saturday have attracted strong entries.

The Group 3 Worthington’s Burlison Inns Stakes (registered As The St Simon Stakes) could potentially see the Classic generation, represented most notably by Derby fifth Red Galileo and St Leger fourth Windshear, clash with the likes of former Dewhurst winner Parish Hall and 2013 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe fifth Penglai Pavilion.

The high-class quartet could be joined by Harris Tweed, Battalion and Danadana, while Quiz Mistress, Rawaki and Special Meaning are other noteworthy names for the mile and a half feature.

Chance To Dance, Glenard, Glorious Protector, Island Remede, Miss Marjurie and Sky Hunter complete the 16-strong field.

The opening Group 3 Worthington’s Whizz Kidz Stakes (registered As The Horris Hill Stakes) for two-year-olds has 13 entries, among them Hughie Morrison’s promising Not So Sleepy, who won his only start earlier this month.

Richard Hannon Snr’s final Group race win of his glorious career was in this contest last season with Piping Rock – a record fourth triumph – and his son Richard Hannon has Smaih, King Of Normandy and Lexington Times engaged as he bids to uphold the family tradition.

Brian Meehan took this seven-furlong contest in 1995 with Tumbleweed Ridge and has Fox Trotter and Growl entered. Brave Zolo, Algaith, Cock Of The North, Code Red, Wet Sail and Mukhayyam make up the field.
