Nicholls Holds Strong Hand in BetVictor Greatwood Gold Cup as he Looks for Tenth Win

Paul Nicholls is looking forward to having two runners in the Grade 3 BetVictor Greatwood Gold Cup, as he looks for his tenth win in the race. Nicky Henderson, who also has his name on the race’s roll of honour, has two declared, Gold Present and Pistol Whipped, whilst local trainer Alan King has declared Senior Citizen.

Grand Sancy and Capeland will be Paul’s two runners who commented, “The race fits in with the programme for horses that don’t go to Cheltenham and like nice ground, so we always like to have runners. It is good prize money and a nice race to run in. I’m excited about the two I have in this year.

Grand Sancy has been waiting for the better ground, he goes well fresh and this could really suit both him and Capeland.”

Later in the card, Paul has two declared in the BetVictor Novices’ Chase (For the Jacky Upton Trophy), including the exciting Hitman who fell when travelling well in the Grade 1 Scilly Isles Novices Chase last time out, and Getaway Trump, who is also declared at Doncaster, which will be his first preference. Paul commented, “I’m looking forward to running him (Hitman). He was running well last time out before falling.”

BetVictor were recently announced as a major new multi-fixture partner at Newbury Racecourse for 2021. The new collaboration takes in the sponsorship of an impressive 41 individual races across 13 racedays, commencing this weekend (Friday 5 and Saturday 6 March) with the BetVictor March Opening Weekend.

Sam Boswell from BetVictor commented, “We can’t wait to get our multi race sponsorship started on Friday with Newbury. The two days have some very interesting runners and it looks set to be a very competitive renewal of the BetVictor Greatwood Gold Cup with Paul Nicholls’ Grand Sancy currently heading the betting at 4/1”
