Newbury Racecourse Announces Further Dates for ‘PUB IN THE PADDOCK’ Following Successful Opening Weekend

Following the success of Pub in the Paddock last weekend, Newbury Racecourse has announced further dates and opening times for their pop-up beer garden experience on 10-12 July 2020. Newbury Racecourse welcomed approximately 500 visitors to the racecourse last weekend to enjoy the racing coverage from both Epsom and Sandown along with Premier League action, all of which was played out on the big screen overlooking the paddock.

Unsettled weather did not deter visitors, with over 300 customers booking reserved socially distanced seating pods in advance of Saturday’s opening day and all were welcomed on arrival with a complimentary racecard for Epsom provided by the tote, with George Baker and tote tipping expert, Jamie Benson on hand to run through the card ahead of the first.

An outside bar with friendly prices, food concessions and free Wi-Fi kept everyone well provided for throughout the afternoon.

Julian Thick, Chief Executive of Newbury Racecourse said: “We have been absolutely delighted with the response to our ‘pop-up’ beer garden which launched this weekend. We were unsure how popular it would prove, but it’s been fantastic to welcome Annual Members, some of our residents, regular racing customers as well as several first-time visitors to the racecourse.

“The classic British weather didn’t put people off and we hope the space will become a regular destination for anyone looking for a socially distanced and safe environment to enjoy a drink with family and friends. We appreciate that people are still nervous about venturing outside, but we hope that given the space we have at the racecourse, some of these fears have been alleviated.

“We are looking forward to opening this weekend and showing the racing action from Newmarket plus Premier League football.”

Aligned to government guidelines around pubs reopening, contact details are captured in advance or on arrival at the racecourse and held securely for 28 days before being destroyed. All customers are asked to use hand sanitizer on entry and adhere to social distancing rules at all times. Cashless payments only are in operation along with Challenge 25 so ID is advised.
