New ‘Live Sessions’ Local Music Showcase As Part Of Bumper Betfair Super Saturday
Local musicians will perform throughout a stacked Betfair Super Saturday card at Newbury on Saturday 10th February; host of other free entertainment on offer too
With just over two weeks until Newbury’s first Premier Raceday of 2024 – Betfair Super Saturday on 10 February – the Racecourse is gearing up for an action-packed day both on and off the racetrack.
A brand-new initiative will get its first outing at the much-anticipated raceday with Newbury launching their ‘Live Sessions’ which will see number of musicians from in and around Newbury take to the stage at the Racecourse.
The ‘Live Sessions’ will take place throughout the day’s action – from 11am until 4:30pm – before local DJ, MZOURI, will take to the stage within the Dubai Duty Free Grandstand for an afterparty. Those in attendance at ‘Live Sessions’ will enjoy an eclectic mix of live music from country to soul and tributes to originals.
As ever, top quality action is guaranteed on the track with three feature races; the Grade 2 Betfair Denman Chase, Grade 2 Betfair Exchange Game Spirit Chase and the Betfair Hurdle. Betfair Super Saturday races have an illustrious roll of honour and the Racecourse are delighted to welcome back a host of popular National Hunt horses to make a guest parade appearance at February’s highlight raceday.
The only horse to win the Betfair Exchange Game Sprit Chase on three occasions in 2017, 2018, 2020, Altior will parade in front of his home crowd at the track at which he became synonymous. Having nearly lost his life to colic early last year, it will be a treat for racegoers to see him fit and healthy once again. Native River, the most successful horse in the history of the Betfair Denman Chase – winning the race in 2017, 2018 and 2020 – as well as the now Coral Gold Cup in 2016, will also return. Sprinter Sacre broke the Newbury track record on his way to an easy victory in the 2012 Betfair Exchange Game Sprit Chase, one of his 18 victories in 24 career starts. As one of the sport’s great champions, Sprinter Sacre, will return to the Berkshire track with the parade line up completed by the recently-retired Sceau Royal. The winner of the 2021 Betfair Exchange Game Spirit Chase, he provided connections with some memorable days racing including Grade 1 success in the Henry VIII Novices’ Chase.
Alongside, the live music, afterparty, parade and on-track excitement, Betfair will be hosting a Punters’ Panel in Newbury’s parade ring ahead of the first race where racegoers can hear from a panel of experts as they offer their tips for the day’s racing. If that wasn’t enough, the Racecourse’s ever-popular complimentary behind the scenes tours also make a return.
