March Racing at Newbury Gets Underway With BetVictor

MARCH RACING AT NEWBURY GETS UNDERWAY WITH BETVICTOR

BetVictor Greatwood Gold Cup features on two-day programme

Jump racing at Newbury continues this weekend with a two-day fixture featuring the £60,000 BetVictor Greatwood Gold Cup on Saturday, 4 March.

The Class 1 Premier Handicap for five-year-olds and over has attracted 11 entries, including previous Newbury hurdles winner, Lord Baddesley, who will be bidding to give trainer Chris Gordon another super Saturday at the Berkshire course following victory with Aucunrisque in the £155,000 Betfair Hurdle last month.

Principal among his rivals could well be last year’s winner, Fergal O’Brien’s Paint The Dream and Tom Lacy’s smart novice chaser, Sebastopol, last seen winning in Grade 2 company at Newbury in November.

Saturday’s programme opens with the Bet In Running On Racing At BetVictor Veterans’ Handicap Chase, and a line-up set to evoke fond memories for Newbury racegoers who could see the return of two previous Coral Gold Cup winners in Cloth Cap and De Rasher Counter who claimed the Newbury showpiece in 2020 and 2019 respectively.

BetVictor’s Sam Boswell said, “With the Cheltenham Festival just around the corner, this meeting comes at a time when interest in jump racing is naturally heightened.  With such a varied programme providing opportunities for all types from juvenile hurdlers to veteran chasers, there’s bound to be something to appeal to any jump racing fan.”

The meeting also marks the renewal of BetVictor’s multi-fixture partnership with Newbury Racecourse which now enters its fourth year and will see 47 races under both codes across 14 fixtures run under the BetVictor banner, highlighted by title sponsorship of one of the course’s most popular summer racedays, BetVictor Hungerford Day which this year features Olly Murs live in concert after racing on Saturday, 19 August.

“We are delighted to continue our successful partnership with Newbury,” added Boswell.  “Newbury has a great team who always strive to maximise the value of our sponsorship and provide us with a terrific platform to showcase our brand at a high-profile venue.”

The two-day fixture opens on Friday, 3 March with a seven-race programme beginning at 1.40pm and heralds a busy month for BetVictor who return to Newbury as title sponsor of the jumps season finale on Friday 24 & Saturday 25 March.

BetVictor’s partnership with Newbury Racecourse has also facilitated the return of the BetVictor Cheltenham Festival Preview Evening.  Hosted by ITV presenter Rishi Persad, who will be joined by form expert, Jim McGrath, Sam Boswell and guests, the event will be broadcast live across Newbury Racecourse’s social media channels from 7.30pm on Thursday, 2 March.
