Kauto to Star on Greatwood Charity Raceday

Following hot on the heels of former stablemate, Denman, dual Gold Cup hero Kauto Star is set to visit the racecourse on Greatwood Charity Day, Saturday 2 March, when the course joins forces with the British Equestrian Federation in a day that celebrates equestrianism. Kauto Star, who made his first ever racecourse appearance in the UK at Newbury when winning the Western Daily Press Club Novices’ Chase back in December 2004, will be displaying his new-found talents in a far removed equine discipline, dressage.

A winner of 16 Grade 1 races and a host of high profile events including Newbury’s Grade 2 Aon Chase in 2007, Kauto Star, trained by Paul Nicholls, is widely regarded as one of the greatest steeplechasers of all time.

The 13-year-old bay gelding who was retired by owner, Clive Smith, after being pulled-up when attempting to add a third Cheltenham Gold Cup to his record five King George VI Chase victories, will be accompanied by his new partner event rider, Laura Collett, for a flat work demonstration prior to racing.

Collett, whose impressive European Championships medals haul comprises seven Gold, one Silver and one Bronze will also be teaming up with her Badminton partner, Rayef, and Yogi Breisner, World Class Performance Manager and Chef d’Equipe to the British Eventing team, for a jumping master class in the pre-parade ring.

“I’m delighted to be returning to Newbury to host a schooling session again as it gives racegoers such a great insight into what’s involved at the highest level in British Eventing”, said Breisner.

“This year we have the extra highlight of seeing Kauto Star. He is a wonderful example of the versatility of the thoroughbred horse and the excellent job done within the racing industry of Great Britain. Kauto Star will demonstrate how naturally racehorses adapt to life after racing.”

Deborah Criddle, Paralympic Gold and Silver Medallist in Dressage will be among those adding her special talents to the equestrian themed activities on the day.
