Exciting Racecourse Shared Ownership Days Announced for 2022

Ownership Days 2022
GB Racing and Paddock

Great British Racing will launch a series of Racecourse Ownership Days in 2022 designed to showcase the ownership experience and the thrill and benefits of shared ownership. In association with the Racehorse Owners Association and the Racehorse Syndicates Association, the series of racecourse events will be promoted via Great British Racing’s shared ownership platform, In The Paddock.

Over 60% of racehorses trained in Britain are raced in some form of shared ownership with syndicates and racing clubs currently a huge growth area within ownership. A 2021 survey created by Great British Racing and completed by over 3,700 racing fans found that 65% of those not currently involved in shared ownership would be interested in pursuing it in the next 18 months.

Shared ownership opportunities have continued to evolve over recent years, making it more accessible than ever for racing enthusiasts to experience the unique thrill of racehorse ownership in a cost-effective way. The Racecourse Ownership Days will be designed to engage with racing fans at racecourses to showcase shared racehorse ownership and the affordable gateway into ownership that syndicates and racings clubs can provide.

Seven meetings have been scheduled in the 2022 Racecourse Ownership Day series, launching at Newbury on 16th April with other fixtures at York (13th May), Perth (18th June), Haydock Park (7th August), Windsor (1st September), Cheltenham (21st & 22nd October) and Ascot (18th & 19th November).

For both seasoned racing fans or relative newcomers to the sport, the series of racecourse events will allow racegoers to enjoy an action-packed day and gain fascinating insight into what it’s like to be an owner of an equine star. Syndicates and clubs will be on hand to discuss an alternative avenue into racehorse ownership and a parade of horses with shares available will take place ahead of racing, allowing racegoers to buy shares on the day or simply learn about the process of purchasing shares in a racehorse and what to look for in a young horse.

Presenter Frankie Foster will host a series of talks alongside a panel of syndicate managers, trainers and a list of racing personalities sharing their ownership stories. Additional activity will offer racegoers a Virtual Reality Ownership Experience for a chance to step into the shoes of an owner using a VR headset as well as the opportunity to meet a syndicate ex-racehorse up close and learn about their career on the track.

The series of Racecourse Ownership Days scheduled for 2022 will build on Great British Racing’s work with In The Paddock and create greater awareness amongst racing fans and racegoers on the opportunity of racehorse ownership.”

Charlie Liverton, Chief Executive of Racehorse Owners Association, said, “The ROA champions racehorse ownership at all levels of the sport. We are truly excited about working across the industry to raise awareness about shared ownership and showcase how racehorse ownership can be affordable and accessible. Racehorse owners are at the very heart of our sport, contributing an emotional and financial investment that makes racing possible. In racing there is no greater thrill than watching your own horse at home on the gallops, in the parade ring before a race or in the winner’s enclosure. Through the Racehorse Ownership Days, we hope to open some doors, show how accessible our racing is and attract new owners to experience first-hand the thrill of the sport.”

Dan Abraham, Chairman of Racehorse Syndicates Association said, “The Racecourse Ownership Days are an excellent initiative which will allow racegoers to learn about the opportunities available to become a racehorse owner. Shared ownership is a fantastic way to own a racehorse whatever your budget. The Racecourse Ownership Days cover a variety of racedays, both flat and national hunt, across the country and will hopefully help translate that dream of becoming a racehorse owner into reality for many people”.
