Captain Cutter lands festive feature for champion jockey

Betfred Goals Galore Challow Novices’ Hurdle victory first leg of Nicky Henderson treble

28 December, 2013 – Nicky Henderson continued his fine run of form at Newbury Racecourse this season by landing a treble which included the Betfred Goals Galore Challow Novices’ Hurdle (1.45pm) with progressive six-year-old Captain Cutter (8/1).

The son of Westerner, now unbeaten in all three starts over hurdles, was given a masterfully patient ride by AP McCoy and pounced on Timesremembered (2nd) and Oscar Rock (3rd) in the home straight to win by four and a half lengths. Whisper (13/8) made it a double for the Henderson team in the Betfred Racing Follow Us On Facebook Handicap Hurdle (2.50pm), while Stand To Reason benefitted from Wilde Blue Yonder’s final flight blunder to land the Betfred Call Us On 0800 221221 Introductory Hurdle Race (3.25pm).

Venetia Williams and Aidan Coleman had earlier teamed up to land the opening two contests with Baradari (11/4) and Saroque (5/2), both for owner Andrew Brooks. The former ran out a facile five length winner of the Betfred Fun and Friendly Juvenile Hurdle (12.15pm), while the latter had four lengths to spare over Glen Countess at the line in the Betfred Mobile Lotto Novices’ Limited Handicap Steeple Chase (12.45pm).

The 1.15pm Betfred Mandarin Handicap Steeple Chase was won by 4/1 chance Financial Climate for Oliver Sherwood and jockey Thomas Garner, while the Harry Fry-trained Vukovar (4/6) survived a mistake at the third from home to reward favourite backers in the Betfred ‘Racing’s Biggest Supporter’ Novices’ Steeple Chase (2.15pm).

Congratulations also goes out to the Chilton family who won Family membership for 2014 in the Treasure Hunt, while the winner of the Christmas Jumper competition went home with a bottle of Hennessy Cognac and tickets for racing in March.

Julian Thick, Chief Executive of Newbury Racecourse, commented: “We may not have had the quantity in terms of runners today, but we certainly had the quality. Congratulations once again to the team at Seven Barrows for landing another treble at Newbury Racecourse”.
