All Star Lockinge Stakes – Neck & Neck

Ahead of this year's Al Shaqab Lockinge Stakes, you can vote in the All Star Lockinge - Neck & Neck

Like a game of trumps, two previous Group 1 “All Star” Lockinge Stakes winners will go neck and neck as if they were running in the race again.

This is YOUR chance to vote who you believe would win the Lockinge if they were to go against each other.

The winning horse from the first round will be put forward from the quarter-finals to the semi-finals and go against a new opponent, until there is one horse remaining – your Lockinge Stakes superstar!

There will be eight horses initially, dropping to four in the semi-finals and two for the final.

You can vote by heading to our Instagram story, where a poll will be up asking you to cast your vote. The poll will begin each day at around 10am and finish each afternoon at 4pm.

Quarter Finals – #1

Frankel vs Ribchester

If Frankel and Ribchester raced against each other in real time, who do you think would come up trumps?

Ribchester was impressive as a racehorse, winning four Group 1’s throughout his career. In 2016, he was recognised as the Top-Rated British-Trained Three-Year-Old.

The legendary Frankel won all 14 of his races, including 10 victories at Group 1 level. Since 2001, he has been named the highest-rated racehorse in the world.

Make sure to log your choice by voting on the poll in our Instagram story by 4pm.

The winner will move into the All Star Lockinge semi-finals!

WINNER – FRANKEL

Quarter Finals – #2

Hawk Wing vs Modern Games

If Hawk Wing and Modern Games raced against each other in real time, who do you think would come up trumps?

Hawk Wing is an American-bred, Irish-trained thoroughbred owned by the Magnier family and trained by Aidan O’Brien. In 2003, he was rated as the leading horse in the world after having won 3 Group 1 races.

Modern Games is a five-time Group 1 winning racehorse, with his victories coming from all over the globe. He recorded Group 1 success in France, America, Canada and finally England in the Lockinge Stakes before being retired to stud last year.

The most recent winning mare of the Lockinge was Rhododendron in 2018. After a total of three Group 1 wins, she retired to become a broodmare and is dam to the superstar Auguste Rodin.

Palace Pier was a top-class miler during his racing career. He won five Group 1’s in total, and in 2021 was awarded the title of Cartier Champion Older Horse.

Quarter Finals – #4

Baaeed vs Paco Boy

If Baaeed and Paco Boy raced against each other in real time, who do you think would come up trumps?

Baaeed won our 2022 Lockinge Stakes in impressive style, adding to his illustrious cv. He ended his career on 10 successive victories, seven of which were Group 1’s.

Paco Boy is often described as one of Richard Hannon Snr’s favourite horses due to how fantastic the horse was and how cheap he was bought for in comparison. Paco Boy retired to become a successful stallion at stud.
