Ten pairs of racegoers who attended Al Shaqab Lockinge Day on Saturday 16 May 2015 recently returned from an all-expenses paid trip to Qatar courtesy of sponsors Al Shaqab.

The racegoers won a racecard competition to predict the winner of the £350,000 Group 1 Al Shaqab Lockinge Stakes, which was Night Of Thunder trained by Richard Hannon.

The prize included return business class flights for two to Doha, seven nights’ accommodation in the Ritz-Carlton Hotel and a number of V.I.P. trips including to the renowned Al Shahania Stud Farm, plus three days’ hospitality at the H.H. The Emir 26th International Equestrian Sword Festival at Doha Racecourse.

Paul and Carol Elliot (pictured above), a retired couple from Marlborough, were amongst the winners. Paul said: “It was the trip of a lifetime. We were flown out business class which we had never done before, so it was out of this world before we had even got there.

“Everyone we encountered was so helpful and couldn’t do enough for you. The highlight for us was the day of racing at Doha on the Saturday to see the Emir’s Sword. It was fantastic.”

Al Shaqab Lockinge Day will be held at Newbury Racecourse on Saturday 14 May 2016, with entries closing for the Group 1 Al Shaqab Lockinge Stakes on Tuesday 29 March.
