A Twenty-Five Strong Field Remain In Contention For Saturday’s Weatherbys Super Sprint

Following the latest confirmation stage today, a field of twenty-five remain in contention for the £250,000 Weatherbys Super Sprint on Saturday, July 20. The five-furlong contest, open to two-year-olds purchased for less than £65,000 at auction, is the feature race at Newbury Racecourse this weekend.

Notable horses amongst the 25 strong entries include the Windsor Castle (Listed Race) winner at this year’s Royal Ascot, the Kevin Ryan trained Ain’t Nobody. Ridden to victory by Jamie Spencer at Royal Ascot, the son of Sands of Mali has a current official rating of 106. Having won his first two career starts over five furlongs, he was well beaten when stepping up to six furlongs in Group 2 company in the Kingdom of Bahrain July Stakes on his most recent start.

Bred by former footballer Michael Owen under his Crypto Bloodstock banner, the dual winner It Ain’t Two could line up for the Hugo Palmer yard. Having gone through the sales ring for just 10,000gns at the Tattersalls November sale and with race conditions giving horses a 1lb allowance for every £5000 below the £65,000 maximum price, and fillies having a further 5lb penalty allowance, the daughter of Calyx may carry just 8st7lb on Saturday.

Violet Love, trained by George Boughey for owner Amo Racing, features amongst the entries. The daughter of Havana Grey, purchased for £30,000 at the Goffs UK Premier Yearling Sales, goes into Saturday having never finished out of the first two in all previous six career starts.  Kaadi is an interesting contender from the Karl Burke yard. Rated 95, the daughter of Soldier’s Call placed in her last two starts in Listed contests in France.  Having been purchased for £60,000 at the Goffs UK Premier Yearling Sale, Do It Now, trained by Adrian Keatley, could carry top weight of 9st5lb on Saturday. Having placed in his first two starts, the son of Bungle Inthejungle, broke his maiden on the third attempt at Ripon.

First-season sire, Sergei Prokofiev, has made a stellar start and Mythical Composer could line up in the Weatherbys Super Sprint as one of his eight winning progeny. Mythical Composer broke his maiden on the third time of asking when ridden by John Fahy for trainer Clive Cox over 5 ½ furlongs at Bath. Last seen when finishing ninth in the Group 2 Queen Mary Stakes at Royal Ascot, Amestris is an interesting contender for the Michael Bell yard having landed a very comfortable victory at Lingfield on her second start
