Richard Hannon star duo among 32 left in the Dubai Duty Free Mill Reef Stakes
The unbeaten Ivawood and the hardy Kool Kompany are two stars from the Richard Hannon stable among 32 entries for the Dubai Duty Free Mill Reef Stakes on Saturday, 20 September.
Ivawood, unbeaten in three starts, is the ante-post favourite for next year’s 2000 Guineas and he could be joined by dual-Group 2 winner Kool Kompany, as well as other stablemates Baitha Alga, Beacon and Dr No.
Limato has a lofty reputation after taking his record to three wins from three starts when defeating subsequent Molecomb Stakes winner Cotai Glory at Newbury in the Listed Rose Bowl Stakes in July. The gelding could represent Henry Candy and renew rivalry with Cotai Glory. The latter’s trainer, Charlie Hills, has also left in Muhaarar and Strath Burn.
Aidan O’Brien has yet to win the Group 2 six-furlong contest for juveniles, but General Marshall, The Great War and The Warrior could bid to end that record for the Ballydoyle handler.
Other notable entries include the Ger Lyons duo of Cappella Sansevero and Ainippe, Mark Johnston’s Jungle Cat, Growl from Brian Meehan’s yard, and the recent York DBS Premier Yearling Stakes winner, Mubtaghaa. Godolphin have engaged three – Charming Thought, Portamento and Winslow – all from Charlie Appleby’s stable.
Newbury Racecourse’s Julian Thick said: “We’re thrilled to see some of the best two-year-olds from both sides of the Irish Sea among the entries for the Dubai Duty Free Mill Reef Stakes, one of the finest juvenile races in the calendar.
“The race is one of four Listed or Group contests across Dubai Duty Free Weekend and we look forward to welcoming racegoers here later this month.”
