OLBG Announced As New Partner At Newbury Racecourse

Sports betting community OLBG has been announced as the new partner of the Owners’ Club at Newbury Racecourse. From January 1st, 2024, the Owners’ Club will be renamed The OLBG Owners’ Club.

Established in 2002, OLBG has grown a community of sports bettors who improve their enjoyment of betting through learning from each other.  The UK’s largest sports betting community site became well known in racing through sponsorship of the OLBG Mares Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival. OLBG are now expanding into racehorse ownership with their sponsorship of the Owners’ Club and local trainer Harry Derham.

Picks Lad made a winning start for OLBG Racing when landing a comfortable victory in a Novices’ Chase at Market Rasen on his first start for new trainer Harry Derham. Hundreds of owners were able to follow his journey and enjoy his victory for a cost of only £60 each.

Alongside the sponsorship of the Owners’ Club at Newbury Racecourse, OLBG will become the race sponsor of the £70,000 Spring Cup on Saturday 20th April 2024. The Class 2 Handicap, regularly one of the top five betting turnover races in Newbury’s calendar, is run over 1 mile on the Saturday of the Dubai Duty Free Spring Trials meeting. Won in 2023 by the Chelsea Thoroughbred owned Jimi Hendrix for trainer Ralph Beckett and jockey Rossa Ryan, only those horses aged four years or older are eligible to run.

Richard Moffat, CEO of OLBG commented on the new partnership: “We have established OLBG Racing to help more people to learn more about the lives of racehorses and those who care for them. The OLBG Owners’ Club at Newbury Racecourse is the perfect partner for us to grow awareness of the OLBG Racing Club which we are setting up with local trainer Harry Derham. We’re looking forward to working with the team at Newbury Racecourse over the coming years and enjoying lots of fun days out at the races.”

Lara Johnston, Sponsorship Manager at Newbury Racecourse welcomed the new partnership: “We are delighted to welcome OLBG as a new partner at Newbury Racecourse. The Owners’ Club is a hub for our owners and trainers alike on racedays and we look forward welcoming OLBG members to enjoy the facility which carries their name. The Spring Cup is always a competitive handicap in our flat season, and we look forward to the 2024 running of the newly-named OLBG Spring Cup. It is an exciting new partnership for Newbury, and we look forward to working with OLBG over the next three years.”
