Newbury Welcomes Bumper Crowd As Relief Rally Stars During Weatherbys Super Sprint Day

Despite the rain and rail strike, Newbury Racecourse welcomed a bumper attendance for Weatherbys Super Sprint Day with Sir Tom Jones today. Almost 19,000 racegoers made the trip to the Berkshire track, the highest attendance since 2019. All premier enclosure, hospitality packages and close proximity tickets sold out on a day which saw exciting action on the track complemented by a headline concert.

It proved to be a very successful day for Tom Marquand who enjoyed a treble and landed the feature race of the day, the Weatherbys Super Sprint with Relief Rally, trained by William Haggas who also had a double on the day. Commanche Falls landed the Group 3 bet365 Hackwood Stakes for the Michael Dods team under a masterful ride by Connor Beasley.

Julian Thick, Chief Executive of Newbury Racecourse commented: “It was brilliant to welcome such a big crowd to Newbury Racecourse today. Despite the weather and rail strike, racegoers turned out in their thousands and were in excellent spirits for what’s always a memorable day. We look forward to our next big Saturday meeting – BetVictor Hungerford Day with Olly Murs on Saturday 19th August – and welcoming yet more racegoers throughout the remainder of 2023.

Early Bird tickets have sold out for BetVictor Hungerford Day with Olly Murs but discounted tickets still remain, with the Advance Saver discount available until Friday 28th July while hospitality packages are becoming limited.
