Getting to know Alice White

To continue #NationalCareersWeek our Owners and Trainers Representative Alice White has let us know her favourite part of working at Newbury.

When did you start work at Newbury Racecourse?

March 2016

What did you do prior to working here?

I previously worked at Windsor Racecourse as Hospitality Sales Executive. Before that I spent time working at various yards including being Pupil Assistant at Jonjo O’Neills . I also had my apprentice license with Hughie Morrison when I was 16. I had 2 rides under rules and about 15 point to pointing but a bad fall riding out made me look at moving into an office environment.

What was your first job here?

I started off in a part-time Sales Executive role selling Hospitality and Restaurants.

What is your current job here?

Full-time Sales Executive selling Hospitality and Restaurants plus being Owners & Trainers Representative.

What is the best part of your job?

I love how varied my role is. I get to see all aspects of a raceday but interacting with owners and trainers to ensure they have the best possible experience at the course is my favourite part.

What advice would you have for someone looking to get into a similar line of work?

Get plenty of experience working in different roles in the industry and build your contacts. I got my first racecourse job at Windsor after doing some work experience at another ARC racecourse and haven’t looked back since!
