Newbury Visit Greatwood Charity

Newbury Racecourse visit Greatwood Charity, a charity whose aim is to utilise horses - mainly ex-racehorses - in educating those aged 5-24.

Greatwood Charity educate young people through mindfulness, emotional wellbeing and inclusion whilst simultaneously offering the horses a safe home at Greatwood.

Greatwood was the first charity in Europe to use former racehorses to educate disadvantaged children and young adults with Special Educational Needs (SEN). Each of these horses are assessed to see if they are suitable to be used in the Horse Power programme to help children with special educational needs, giving them a new focus.

Founder and Managing Director of Greatwood, Helen Yeadon MBE, commented “There hasn’t been a year that’s gone by that we haven’t been supported by Newbury. The addition of the stable (at Newbury) for one of our former racehorses to go into on a raceday makes the racegoer understand that there is a life after racing and that racing loves its old warriors and will look after them.”

Maherlvous will next attend Newbury on Dubai Duty Free International Weekend. He will be bringing with him with him an adorable tiny Shetland friend called Gladys!
