Newbury Racecourse To Host New Goffs Point-To-Point Sale
The highlight of Newbury Racecourse’s jumps calendar, the Coral Gold Cup, takes place on Saturday 2nd December and Newbury are delighted to announce that, following the conclusion of the day’s racing, the Racecourse will host the inaugural Coral Gold Cup Sale by Goffs.
The Coral Gold Cup Sale, to be held in the winners’ enclosure immediately after racing finishes, is a new offsite boutique sale to be added to the Goffs portfolio of select Point-to-Point sales. Newbury previously hosted Goffs offsite sales, prior to the course’s extensive redevelopment, with sales also taking place at locations including Aintree, Punchestown, Sandown and Yorton.
Such offsite Point-to-Point sales have seen many purchases at world-record prices and produced multiple champions on the racetrack. A notable graduate of a similar offsite sale includes the multiple Grade 1 winning Jonbon. Trained by Nicky Henderson, the three-time Grade 1 winning chaser was purchased for £570,000 at Goffs UK Yorton Point-to-Point sale. A previous Goffs sale at Newbury in 2013 achieved a world-record price for a National Hunt horse-in-training at public auction when Un Temps Pour Tout was purchased for £450,000.
The two-day Coral Gold Cup meeting – across Friday 1st & Saturday 2nd December – features top quality racing at Newbury with notable highlights on meeting’s second day being the Listed Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle, the Grade 2 John Francome Novices’ Chase and the feature race, the Coral Gold Cup. The roll call of previous winners includes the likes of Arkle, Denman, Bobs Worth, Many Clouds, Native River and last year’s winner Le Milos.
Tim Kent, Goffs UK Managing Director, announced the new Coral Gold Cup Sale:
“We are excited by the opportunities Newbury will offer as the racecourse has undergone extensive redevelopment since our last sale there just under 10 years ago and it now offers facilities that are second to none. Combined with the world-class Coral Gold Cup meeting, which is always attended by so many leading owners and trainers, it is ideally suited to have a sale of this nature, so we will use our extensive knowledge and experience, learned from years of offsite sales, to make this a success.”
“Like many of the horses we will offer, we are a proven performer as evidenced by our portfolio of select PTP sales across different locations including Newbury, Punchestown and Aintree which have achieved world-record prices on no less than three occasions and whose graduates have included several champions. We proved that yet again last year, having created and successfully launched the Tingle Creek Sale which was met with great acclaim from vendors and buyers who benefited from our unique approach.
“We would like to extend our thanks to Newbury Racecourse for their enthusiastic backing of this event, we look forward to working with them in the coming weeks and, of course, to offering a world-class catalogue of pointers on Saturday 2nd December.”
Julian Thick, Chief Executive of Newbury Racecourse, welcomed the exciting addition to the showcase meeting:
“The Coral Gold Cup meeting is an iconic weekend and the highlight of our jumps season here at Newbury. It attracts the best National Hunt horses and leading owners and trainers and we are delighted to be able to support Goffs and host the Coral Gold Cup sale following the conclusion of what is set to be a fantastic two days’ racing. We hope the sales is well supported by vendors and agents alike and are sure it’s one not to be missed.”
Tickets for both days of the Coral Gold Cup meeting are currently available at the lowest-priced Early Bird rate, but only until Friday 3rd November. For tickets, hospitality and full event information please visit www.newburyracecourse.co.uk.
