Newbury Racecourse Members’ Horse – Wendigo – Shines In Coral Challow Hurdle Performance
In partnership with The Racing Club, all Newbury Racecourse Members were given a free share in Wendigo, trained by Jamie Snowden. Wendigo made his racecourse debut on 28th December, delivering a show-stopping performance in the Coral Challow Hurdle.
Wendigo lined up for the Coral Challow Hurdle alongside seven other runners, with Gavin Sheehan in the saddle. Last year’s winners, Paul Nicholls and Harry Cobden, entered the race with Regent’s Stroll, a recent Newbury Racecourse victor. Additionally, the unbeaten The New Lion returned, aiming to maintain his flawless record.
After being held up at the rear and outpaced by a quick field early on, Wendigo faced significant ground to cover in the closing stages. However, he mounted an incredible comeback from the rear of the field to secure a highly impressive second place.
Finishing behind the formidable The New Lion, Wendigo thrilled members of both The Racing Club and Newbury Racecourse.
Jamie Snowden reflected on Wendigo’s outstanding Grade 1 performance: “Delighted with Wendigo. He ran on really strongly to pick up second late on. Second in a Grade 1 that, on paper, looked like one of the best Novice Hurdles this side of the Irish Sea. It was built up to be an absolute belter, and I think it lived up to that expectation.”
Racing Club and Newbury Racecourse Members enjoyed a day at the Coral Challow Hurdle, making the most of the course’s offerings and a thrilling card of seven races.
