Goffs and Newbury Racecourse Coral Gold Cup

Goffs Boutique Point-To-Point Sale Returns To The Coral Gold Cup Meeting At Newbury Racecourse

The Goffs Coral Gold Cup Sale to take place after racing on Saturday 30th November

The highlight of Newbury Racecourse’s National Hunt calendar, the Coral Gold Cup, takes place on Saturday 30th November and following the inaugural Goffs UK Coral Gold Cup Sale in 2023 – which saw 18 of the 21 horses offered sold for a total of £2,145,000 – the sale will once again take place following the conclusion of the day’s racing in 2024.

The Goffs UK Coral Gold Cup Sale, to be held in the pre-parade ring immediately after racing finishes on Saturday 30th November, is an off-site boutique sale, forming part of Goffs portfolio of select Point-to-Point sales.

Last year saw two horses share the top billing of £200,000: Lot 6, Half Past Tipsy (Ire), was bought by Gavin Cromwell from Sam Curling’s Skehanagh Stables and Lot 18, The Bluesman (Fr), was bought by agent Tom Malone on behalf of trainer Paul Nicholls from Denis Murphy’s Ballyboy Stables. The Bluesman broke his maiden when ridden to a 14-length victory by Freddie Gingell on his second start under rules in a Chepstow bumper on Easter Monday. Across the 18 lots sold, the inaugural sale saw an average sale price of £119,167 and median price of £110,000.

The two-day Coral Gold Cup meeting – across Friday 29th & Saturday 30th November – guarantees top quality National Hunt racing at Newbury. The feature race on the opening day of the meeting, the Coral Long Distance Hurdle, includes Inglis Drever, Big Buck’s, Thistlecrack, Paisley Park and Champ amongst its roll of honour. Won last year by the Jamie Snowden trained Datsalrightgino, the Coral Gold Cup – Saturday’s feature race – is one of the most prestigious races in the British National Hunt calendar. The roll call of previous winners includes the likes of Arkle, Denman, Bobs Worth, Many Clouds and Native River.

Tim Kent, Goffs UK Managing Director, commented:

“Last year’s sale saw us return to Newbury after a 10-year absence and it was a resounding success, the feedback we received from vendors and buyers was overwhelmingly positive, so we are thrilled to be returning again next month.

“Once again, the Newbury team have been enthusiastic and proactive partners and have worked with us to deliver what we hope will be an even better experience for vendors and buyers alike. We will be canvassing for entries at the upcoming UK and Irish point-to-points and the catalogue will be released in the build-up to the sale.”

Shaun Hinds, Chief Executive of Newbury Racecourse, welcomed the return of the Goffs Coral Gold Cup Sale to the showcase meeting: “The Coral Gold Cup meeting is an iconic weekend and the highlight of our jumps season here at Newbury. Year on year the meeting attracts top quality National Hunt horses, and leading owners and trainers alike. Following the success of last year’s Goffs Coral Gold Cup Sale, we are delighted to be able to support Goffs once again this year following the conclusion of what is set to be a fantastic two days’ racing.”

Tickets for both days of the Coral Gold Cup meeting are currently available at the discounted Early Bird rate, but only until 11:59pm on Friday 1st November with U18s going free. For tickets, hospitality and full event information please visit www.newburyracecourse.co.uk.
