Action-Packed Dubai Duty Free International Weekend Awaits
The much-anticipated Dubai Duty Free International Weekend arrives at Newbury on Friday 20th and Saturday 21st September with a whole host of action to be enjoyed on and off the track.
The Group 2 Dubai Duty Free Mill Reef Stakes, a six-furlong contest for two-year-olds, is the feature race of the weekend, worth a total prize fund of £100,000 this year. Named after the champion racehorse, Mill Reef, who was trained locally by Ian Balding, last year’s renewal was won by Array. Trained by Andrew Balding, it was poignant success as despite numerous attempts, Balding had not previously won the race named after his father’s 1971 Epsom Derby winner.
Away from the racing action, there’s lots of entertainment for racegoers to enjoy while the raceday afterparty will feature DJ Hypester. Harry Frost, a local thirteen-year-old who performs under the stage name DJ Hypester has enjoyed a breakout year and recently went viral when the chart-topping Chase and Status shared his videos across social media. This summer Harry played multiple sets at Boardmasters Festival in Cornwall and headlined the Club Stage at Carfest in Hampshire. We are looking forward to his drum and bass set when he closes the after party once the racing has finished on Saturday.
The International Weekend is delivered in partnership with Dubai Duty Free – who have supported Newbury for 29 years – and racegoers will have the opportunity to sample complimentary Arabic coffee and dates in the Dubai Duty Free Marquee. Those in attendance can also win fabulous prizes including race day tickets, free gifts and free entry into the Dubai Duty Free Millennium Millionaire and Finest Surprise draws by spinning the Dubai Duty Free Wheel of Fortune.
In addition to the Racecourse’s long-standing partnership with Dubai Duty Free, Newbury are also delighted to partner with Greatwood Charity, who use retired racehorses to educate disadvantaged children and young adults with special educational needs. Newbury’s equine ambassador, Marhvelous, will be on-site on Saturday courtesy of this partnership, offering everyone in attendance the opportunity to get up close with a racehorse.
Under 18s go free to the Dubai Duty Free International Weekend and on Saturday young racegoers can enjoy arts and crafts session as well as face painting – all complimentary. In addition to the activities for young fans, all those in attendance can enjoy behind-the-scenes tours and trips to the start courtesy of course expert and former jockey, David Crosse.
Tickets – including discounted two-day passes – are still on sale for next weekend’s action with an early booking discount available until 11:59pm on Friday 13th September while a number of hospitality experiences are also available.
