Newbury appoints Andy Clifton as Head of Communications

Newbury Racecourse has announced that Andy Clifton has been appointed to the newly created role of Head of Communications.

Clifton has most recently been working for the Hong Kong Jockey Club as Executive Manager of Racing Public Affairs, prior to which he was Communications Manager at Cheltenham for seven years.

During his career he has also held high-profile positions with the Tote and Ladbrokes, run successful ownership syndicate Favourites Racing and worked in Race Planning at what is now the British Horseracing Authority.

Julian Thick, Chief Executive Officer at Newbury, said: “I am delighted that we have been able to recruit someone of Andy’s profile and experience to the senior management team here.

“He has extensive knowledge of many areas of the international racing industry and I am sure he will make a significant contribution to the future of the racecourse.”

Commenting on his appointment, Clifton said: “Newbury has long been one of my favourite racecourses and I am flattered to be given the opportunity to play a part in the next exciting phase of its development.

“Working for the Hong Kong Jockey Club for the last year has been an incredible experience, but having made the decision to return home to be closer to my family, it was important to me to find a stimulating and challenging role.

“When I was offered the chance to join the Newbury team in this new position it didn’t take me very long to decide.”
