Theo Fennell creates Al Shaqab Lockinge Trophy

Al Shaqab is delighted to announce that Britain’s leading jewellery designer, Theo Fennell, has designed and created the first Al Shaqab Lockinge trophy, to be presented to the winning owner of the inaugural Al Shaqab Lockinge Stakes on Saturday, 16 May at Newbury Racecourse. Crafted by hand in England from solid Silver by a team of silversmiths using traditional techniques, the trophy has been hand-engraved and hallmarked in London.

Al Shaqab Lockinge day is the richest and most prestigious raceday held at Newbury Racecourse. The feature race, the Group 1 Al Shaqab Lockinge Stakes, first run in 1958 has been won by many famous equine superstars including the incomparable Frankel.

Harry Herbert, Racing Advisor to Al Shaqab, said: “The Al Shaqab Lockinge is a race very close to our hearts having won it last year with Olympic Glory. Being a very prestigious race, we felt it was essential to honour the achievements of the winner appropriately and what better way to do that than with a trophy designed and made by the world famous British jeweller, Theo Fennell.”

Julian Thick, CEO at Newbury Racecourse, said: “All of us at Newbury are looking forward to the inaugural Al Shaqab Lockinge Day, and I’m delighted that that the winning owner of the day’s biggest race will receive such a magnificent trophy in recognition of their achievement.”
