Saayerr heads entries in Dubai Duty Free Mill Reef Stakes

William Haggas’ Saayerr is the leading name among a 20 strong field entered for this Saturday’s Dubai Duty Free Mill Reef Stakes.

The two-year-old, who has won on three of his five starts to date, carries a penalty after winning the Group 2 Richmond Stakes at Goodwood under Ryan Moore.

Aidan O’Brien and Richard Hannon could both saddle three runners each, with the unbeaten Shamshon likely to prove popular for the latter after his win at Deauville on his last appearance.

The six furlong contest was landed this time 12 months ago by Moohaajim after he held off Master of War for jockey Adam Kirby and trainer Marco Botti.

Godolphin’s sole entry in this year’s contest is Figure Of Speech, who was beaten by a short head by Brown Sugar at Kempton earlier this month and finished behind Saayerr at Goodwood.

Stephen Higgins, joint Managing Director of Newbury Racecourse said: “We are delighted the race has attracted such a strong looking field as high quality is what this racecourse is all about.

“We’re also holding our inaugural Racing for Racegoers that afternoon, so it’s an ideal chance for everyone, regardless of their level of horse racing knowledge, to learn more about the sport that we all love.”

The initiative promises a definitive experience for the racing enthusiast and will feature a number of unique opportunities and attractions.

Spectators will be offered the chance to walk the course with a Group 1-winning jockey, alongside Clerk of the Course Richard Osgood, before a variety of prominent experts from the world of horseracing conduct a series of informative talks during the afternoon.

Among those taking part will be official BHA handicapper Matthew Tester, James Luck of Luck Greayer Bloodstock Shipping, and Timeform’s Chief Correspondent Jamie Lynch.

Those wanting to walk the course and attend the behind the scenes tours are invited to register their interest by emailing [email protected] with “Racing for Racegoers” in the subject title. Please note, these activities are only open to visitors with a valid entrance ticket/badge.
