Hannon leaning towards Weatherbys Super Sprint run with Tiggy Wiggy

Richard Hannon’s Queen Mary Stakes second Tiggy Wiggy looks set to bypass Newmarket’s July Meeting and head to the £250,000 Weatherbys Super Sprint at Newbury on Saturday 19  July for her next start.

Speaking at the Berkshire track last night, Hannon said: “I’m leaning towards running Tiggy Wiggy in the Weatherbys Super Sprint as we love this track and this race. She’s in at Newmarket and I’ll speak to the owners, but the race looks perfect for her.”

Also in the mix for Hannon – whose father helped devise the concept of the Super Sprint and won it a record seven times – is Parsley, last seen finishing runner-up in the bet365 Empress Stakes.

Hannon added: “Parsley ran a cracker to be second at Newmarket last weekend and this looks the ideal next step for her too. Again, I’ll be speaking to the owners who will have the final say.”

One colt definitely on course for the five-furlong contest is the Charlie Hills-trained Magical Memory, who is the Lambourn handler’s only entry.

Hills commented: “This has always been the plan since he finished second at Sandown on his penultimate run. We wanted to get a win under his belt, which we managed at Leicester last time, before coming here.”

Another trainer relying on just one entry is Mick Channon, who has high hopes for Billyoakes, saying: “The Weatherbys Super Sprint is very much the plan for Billyoakes who is a lovely colt.

“He’s speedy and going well at home, although we’ve been held up a little. If all goes well between now and then he’ll run.”
