Declaration of War leads Anglo-Irish-German Assault on the JLT Lockinge Stakes

A quality field of 13 horses will line up for Saturday’s feature race at Newbury Racecourse, the Group 1 JLT Lockinge Stakes at 3.50pm.

The Irish raider trained by Aidan O’Brien, Declaration of War, is currently favourite at 13/8 with Roger Charlton’s Cityscape and Farhh 2nd and 3rd favourite.

Strong local support for the race comes from the Richard Hannon yard which has Trumpet Major and Libranno in the race, whilst West Berkshire trainer Hughie Morrison has Chil The Kite.  Foreign interest in the race comes in the shape of the German trained Amaron ridden by Andrasch Starke.

As well as the racing, the day also features a celebration of local ales and food with over 40 real ales and ciders on offer as well as The Crafty Filly, the new racecourse pub in the Premier Enclosure.  A selection of food stalls from local producers, live music and a quality afternoon of racing promises a great day out for racing newcomers and avid racing fans alike.

The JLT Lockinge Stakes forms part of the QIPCO British Champions Series.   The Series highlights the 35 best Flat races in Britain and the Lockinge is the second of the mile contests.  Special “RaceMakers” will be on hand to share their passion and knowledge with novice racegoers and there will also be the opportunity to Meet a Racehorse and take part in behind the scenes tours and guided trips to the start and parade ring with free kids packs and treasure hunts available for children at the Inside Track stand.

The JLT Lockinge Stakes is one of four televised races from Newbury on Channel 4.  The first race takes place at 1.30pm and the last race is at 6.05pm.  Tickets for JLT Lockinge Stakes Day are on sale from £20.
