Danny Howard eager to appear at Newbury on Saturday

Dance music greats Danny Howard and DJ Fresh take to the Party in the Paddock stage at Newbury Racecourse this Saturday, July 18.

After seven races featuring the £250,000 Weatherbys Super Sprint, Newbury will host sets by two of the biggest names in dance music.

Danny-Howard

Howard is one of the UK’s most high-profile DJs, fronting BBC Radio 1’s Dance Anthems show with over 1.8 million listeners every weekend, and is a regular at the biggest clubs and festivals around the world.

He launched his Nothing Else Matters brand in 2013 and also has a weekly show on US satellite station Sirius XM.

Howard said: “I cannot wait to play at Newbury. It was a bit of a strange one to come in because playing at a racecourse is not something a DJ does too often.

“It is something I have never done, so I did a bit of research into last year’s event and it looked really, really good.

“Annie Mac and Pete Tong have played at Newbury before so I asked them and they said it was great fun. Anything you have never done before that other people recommend is always going to feel fresh and exciting.

“It is shaping up to be a really good day and it will great to go down and experience the races. I would be insulting the racing community if I pretended that I was a fan, but I am really looking forward to the opportunity to go and soak it all up.

“Every set you do is different, whether it be in Ibiza, the UK, America or wherever it is. You have always got to prepare for the crowd and I think a lot of DJs are guilty of playing the same set, which doesn’t really work.

“Playing a racecourse is a unique event in itself. In my head, everyone will be there for a great day and a bit of fun. They will have had a few drinks, hopefully the sun will be shining and everyone will be really up for it.

“I think it will be a party crowd. I’m going to play big anthems mixed in with some unknown stuff that I think everyone will enjoy. It will be a real mix, but the most important ingredient is party.

“This year has been really good, if a bit tiring but I’m doing something I love and will never moan. I have been playing at some amazing places and it makes it easy to power on when you have got some great shows to look forward to.

“I created Nothing Else Matters to showcase British artists and to create a brand that is more house music based. The current trend in dance music is more housie and there are a lot of British artists coming through.

“The brand is working and we have already done events at Amnesia in Ibiza and BCM in Mallorca every Tuesday this summer.

“We are hosting our own stage at the HD Festival in Kent which is mind-blowingly exciting. Tomorrowland is a festival I am really looking forward to. Then I’ve got Creamfields, HD and plenty of UK dates in September. I am also working on some new music that will be released at the end of the year so there is plenty to look forward to.”

Howard will be joined after racing at Newbury from 5.30pm by drum and bass star DJ Fresh, who has over two million record sales and two UK number one singles to his name, notably the 2012 Brit Award nominated ‘Hot Right Now’ featuring Rita Ora.

The first of the seven races is at 1.25pm, with the last contest due off at 4.55pm. The DJ sets are set to commence at 5.30pm, with the gates opening at 11.30am.
