Assistant Night Manager

Full Time

The Lodge urgently seeks an Assistant Night Manager to join their friendly team. This is a position of responsibility taking care of the hotel during the night, ensuring the hotel meets and exceeds customer expectations whilst maintaining agreed standards of service.

This is a varied hands-on position and responsibilities will include, amongst others:

  • Greeting late arrivals, answering queries, helping to resolve any issues and overall providing exceptional assistance and service to our guests during night-time hours
  • Assisting with food service and operating the on-site bar as and when required
  • Receive and process telephone and walk in reservations accurately to ensure guest satisfaction
  • Carry out other administrative and reception duties that may be required
  • Participate with night cleaning schedules as directed by the Senior Duty Manager
  • Compliance with all health and safety, food hygiene and fire safety regulations
  • Ensuring the security of the hotel during night-time hours

The successful candidate will:

  • Be self-motivated and able to use their initiative
  • Possess excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Exercise sound judgment and be happy to work unsupervised
  • Be an ambassador for The Lodge and the Newbury Racecourse

Previous work experience in a similar role within the hospitality, catering or sporting industries will be advantageous, but not essential as training will be provided.
This is a flexible hours role (approximately 2-3 nights per week) and will include hours of work during weekends and racedays on a rota basis. In return we are able to offer competitive pay.

Maintenance Technician

Full Time

We  are seeking to appoint 2 appropriately qualified and experienced individuals to take up roles as Maintenance Technicians. Reporting into the Maintenance Manager, the successful candidates will both have full working knowledge of safe working practices and a proactive approach and will carry out a varied range of maintenance duties across the NRC site.
Main duties will include:

  • Supporting the Maintenance Manager in the safe operation and maintenance of all plant, equipment and installations while maintaining efficient and high performance standards.
  •  Giving site support to the set up and de-rig of all site events and provide race day support.
  • Taking a proactive attitude in identification and resolution of defects.
  • Undertaking systems installation / maintenance / repair work as required.
  •  Carry out building fabric repairs and small works such as painting & decorating etc.
  • Undertaking all necessary repairs and PPM tasks of a statutory and non-statutory nature relating to Electrical systems, Boilers, HVAC and General Building elements and advise your line Manager on remedial action required.
  • Working on new installations and undertake training on new techniques and legislation as required and pass on knowledge to others.
  • Completing all necessary paperwork to support tasks and provide an audit trail for legislative compliance.
  • Completing risk assessment and method statement review for all contractors prior to carrying out their works.
  • Ensuring compliance with statutory requirements, all relevant Health & Safety Legislation and site specific Health, Safety and welfare policies.
  • Ensuring communication to the team on activity that will have any impact on the site staff or facilities.
  • Maintaining contractor, O&M and service records.
  • The ideal candidates will have a flexible attitude in order to work independently and as part of a team, with enthusiasm for both the role and the Racecourse. Essential qualifications are:
  • One of the following: Electrical City & Guilds 2365 with 17th Edition and Test & Inspection. City and Guilds in Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning. City, Gas Safe Commercial and Domestic.
  • Proven competence in Electrical Controls systems associated with Mechanical Services and the ability to diagnose faults and put forward appropriate rectification measures will also be required.
  • A valid UK driving licence.

Nursery Practitioner

Full Time

The Rocking Horse Nursery is currently seeking two experienced Nursery Practitioners to join our dedicated team working in our fantastic brand new nursery facility.
Please note that two roles are available: a permanent contract and a maternity cover contract. As part of your application, please state which role is of interest to you. This is an urgent requirement at an exciting time for the nursery, therefore availability to start quickly would be of great benefit.

You may hold either a level 2 or 3 NVQ in Childcare and have experience of working in a nursery environment.

Pay rates will be between £7.20-£8.00 per hour dependant on skills and experience.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Creating a learning environment within our new facility for the children to naturally develop and realise their potential
  • Encouraging and playing with the children including excursions (weather permitting) to ensure a rounded experience
  • Enabling parents to feel secure and involved in the development of their child by assisting the Senior Nursery Nurse to maintain correct confidential development records, daily journals and other notes
  • Discussing with the parents, as requested at the appropriate time, the progress of the child and bringing to the immediate notice of the Senior Nursery Nurse any cause for concern
  • Maintaining at all times suitable conditions of hygiene and cleanliness for the children. Assisting in the maintenance of correct records, which are kept for special dietary needs. Assisting in the supervision of meal times and feeding techniques.
  • Carrying out any other duties that may from time to time be specified by the Senior Staff and be deemed necessary for the correct conduct of the nursery in compliance with government rules and regulations in force together with the guidance of appropriate social services directives
